Hon.Barr.Evelyn Omavowan
one of the Urhobo kingdoms in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
She obtained SSCE in Alegbo Secondary School Effurun 1988,NCE in Education College of Education Warri, Bachelor's Degree BSc.Ed(Double Honours ,second Class Upper)Business Administration and Education from the prestigious Delta State University Abraka in 1997.She got her master's degree in Public Administration DELSU 2002.Being a young girl who has an ambition in politics,she switched to study law,she obtained Degree in Law LLB Delta State University Abraka and got her BL Nigeria Bar 2011.She was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar.
Her interest in politics spur from her days at the College of Education Warri.She was among the school students key political gradiators during her set.Elected as first female vice president Student Union Government,College of Education Warri 1990-1991 and Financial Director, Student Union Government,Delta State University Abraka 1996.
With the wealth of experiences gathered from the school politics,she contested and was elected as a councilor under the platform of PDP representing her ward in the local council of Uvwie, Delta -State 1999-2002.She was later appointed as a Special Assistant Office of Governor Delta State under the Ibori Administration in 2003 and got elected as the first female Chairperson of Uvwie Local Government Area 2004-2007.
Barr.Oboro being a diligent and intelligent young female politician,she was appointed under the administration of Dr.Emmanuel Eweta Uduagha as the First member Delta State Universal Basic Education Board 2008-2009, reappointed First member Delta State management Board 2010.It was on this pedestal of service delivery to the people she contested under the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform for Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie Federal House of Representative in 2011 and was elected into the Green Chamber of the Nigerian House of Assembly,as the First female parliamentarian in Urhobo nation .She performed assiduously and was reelected to the 8th Assembly 2015-2019.
Her legislative interest was focus on constituency projects,human capital development and making - oriented laws.She worked to ensure young people and women are taking out of the streets,by assisting them to earn a living through skill acquisition.She is a known philanthropist and runs an NGO named Evelyn Oboro Foundation with which she has empowered several women,youths, elderly and children.
Additionally,she served in various committee including member committee on Airforce,member committee on Gas Resources, member committee on Local Content, member committee on Federal Judiciary, member committee on Banking and Currency, member committee on Niger Delta Development and Chairman House committee on Women in Parliament of the House of Representatives - National Assembly Nigeria.
She is one of our Urhobo sagacious female politicians who has always remain fair and consistent in the game.She was the candidate of the People Democratic party(PDP)for Delta Central Senatorial District, although unsuccessful in the last general election.She raised the flag of our women,that their worth is more than kitchen.
We must learn to celebrate our female politicians,as they involved in the rigorous dirty game of Nigeria politics.Barr.Evelyn Oboro has done us proud as a people. she has helps to break the high gender inequality, limiting our women in taking leadership assignment in our society.She is truely the female political icon in Urhobo nation.
