A New Year Appeal for Healing and Justice: The Okuama Matter

In this spirit, the appointment of Honourable Minister Christopher Musa presents a timely opportunity to address unresolved issues that continue to weigh on the conscience of the nation — particularly the tragic events surrounding Okuama in Delta State.

The destruction of the Okuama community, the loss of lives, and the displacement of families remain deeply painful chapters in Nigeria’s recent history. Nearly two years later, the effects of those events are still felt, not only by the affected families but also by citizens who desire justice, closure, and trust in national institutions.

Of particular concern is the continued detention of Okuama community leaders, some of whom have sadly passed away while awaiting resolution. As the year turns, this lingering situation calls for compassionate review and decisive action.
