Workers across Delta State gathered today at the Cenotaph Centre, Asaba, to commemorate this year’s International Workers’ Day with a colourful march pass parade by various labour unions and organizations, highlighting the resilience and commitment of the state’s workforce.
The event, which drew stakeholders from across the state, was graced by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, who represented the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
Joining in the celebration, the Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ighoyota Amori, commended the dedication and hard work of Delta workers, describing them as the backbone of the state’s progress and the driving force behind the successful implementation of the MORE Agenda.
Speaking to journalists in Asaba, Senator Amori expressed his deep appreciation to workers across sectors for their unwavering service and loyalty to the government and the people of Delta State.
“Workers are the engine with which a great nation is forged,” Senator Amori declared. “They form the core structure of governance and development. Their efforts in ensuring the success of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda are both commendable and invaluable.”
He praised Governor Oborevwori for his consistent commitment to workers’ welfare in the state, citing the prompt payment of salaries, regular promotion of civil servants, and ongoing capacity-building programs as evidence of a government that prioritizes its workforce.
“Today is not just a celebration, but a moment to reflect on the immense contributions of our workers to the socio-economic growth of Delta State,” Senator Amori noted. “As the Chief Adviser to the Governor, I remain committed to supporting policies that uphold workers’ rights, improve conditions of service, and foster an enabling environment for productivity.”
He also used the occasion to call on workers to remain steadfast, innovative, and united in their roles as partners in governance, stressing that their collective input is crucial to the realization of the administration’s vision for a stronger Delta.
The ceremony at the Cenotaph featured solidarity songs, speeches from labour leaders, and a vibrant parade that showcased the strength and unity of Delta’s labour force.
May Day, also known as Workers’ Day, is observed globally on May 1st to honour the social and economic achievements of workers and advocate for fair labour practices.
