“DELTA IS ONE AGAIN” ~ AMORI COMMENDS OBOREVWORI BRIDGE-BUILDING LEADERSHIP

By Joelson Eboh

In a historic political development that has reshaped the Delta State political landscape, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on Monday officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing with him the full structure of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) across the 25 local government areas of the state.

Speaking on the side-lines of the grand defection ceremony held at the Cenotaph Centre in Asaba, the Chief Adviser to the Governor, Senator Ighoyota Amori, described the move as a bold and unifying step that signifies the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance and accelerated development in Delta State.

“Governor Oborevwori has always been a bridge builder,” Senator Amori told journalists. “He talks less but acts more. What we are witnessing today is a demonstration of true leadership; reconciling a once divided political family and bringing everyone under one roof to work for the common good of Delta State.”

The defection, which drew thousands of political stakeholders and party loyalists, saw the governor joined by his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, all 25 local government chairmen, 500 councillors, ward chairmen, and the entire PDP state executive council structure.

Present to witness the watershed moment was the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu, alongside the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, 21 APC governors, and several federal lawmakers from Delta and across the country.

Other notable attendees included Chief Ovie Omo-Agege, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, and former Delta State Commissioner for Finance, Olorogun Bernard Okumagba.

Senator Amori emphasized that many of those who had previously defected to the APC from the PDP were now reuniting under a single political family with this landmark move, effectively ending years of fragmentation within Delta’s political space.

“This is what the governor promised Deltans through his MORE Agenda. We are seeing Opportunity for All being translated into reality. Today, we can say without fear that we are truly on the path of Meaningful development, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security,” he said.

He called on all Deltans to rally behind Governor Oborevwori in this new chapter of unity and progress.

“If we trusted him with our mandate to lead Delta State, we must also trust in the decision he has made today, because it is rooted in that same confidence and vision for a united and prosperous Delta,” Senator Amori declared.

The defection marks a significant shift in Delta politics and sets the stage for a new era of collaboration among stakeholders across the state under the APC platform.

GOOD FRIDAY REMINDS US OF ULTIMATE SACRIFICE OF LOVE,MERCY AND REDEMPTION ~ AMORI

As we mark this solemn Good Friday, a day that reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice of love, mercy, and redemption, we encourage all Deltans to reflect deeply on the values of peace, selflessness, and unity.

The death of Christ on the cross teaches us the power of humility, forgiveness, and hope even in the face of adversity. In this season, may our hearts be drawn closer to one another in compassion, understanding, and renewed commitment to the growth of our state.

I wish all Christians and indeed all Deltans a peaceful and reflective Good Friday.

May the sacrifice of Christ rekindle our hope, renew our faith, and remind us of the boundless love that conquered the grave.

Abati, Adesina, Okupe, Oyo rated effective presidential spokespersons in Nigeria's Fourth Republic ~ Bureau DG

...Oghenesivbe set for NIPR National Spokespersons Summit in Abuja

An assessment of the credentials and performance of presidential spokespersons in Nigeria's Fourth Republic has revealed that Dr. Reuben Abati, Pastor Femi Adesina, late Dr Doyin Okpe, late Mrs Remi Oyo and Segun Adeninyi, were effective communicators, and performed reasonably well more than their counterparts between 1999 and 2024.

Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, made the disclosure on Saturday while speaking as NIPR guest lecturer in the second pre conference webinar series for NIPRW conference, tagged Uyo 2025, and the NIPR National Spokespersons Summit holding in Abuja from Monday 14th to Thursday 17th April, 2025.

He spoke on the topic: "Perceived performance of Presidential Spokespersons in Nigeria's Fourth Republic."

Dr Oghenesivbe's NIPR webinar lecture was an offshoot from his Postgraduate dissertation at the Department of Mass Communication,  University of Lagos, and proudly endorsed by NIPR Council. He  assessed the Public Relations Credentials and Performance of Presidential Spokespersons in Nigeria's Fourth Republic, wherein he contextually analyzed multifaceted data on late Dr Doyin Okpe, late Mrs Oluremi Oyo, Uba Sani, Segun Adeninyi, Ima Nibiro, Femi Adesina, Dr Reuben Abati, and Chief Ajuri Ngilale.

The assessment guided by the four models of Public Relations; Credentialism Theory, and Role Theory, as well as quantitative content analysis of spokespersons profiles and career trajectories was supported by a survey of 73 professional Public Relations practitioners perception of individual performance.

The study which was keenly supervised by Dr Unwana Samuel Akpan of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, earned Oghenesivbe accolades from academicians and PR executives, as well as members of NIPR Council.

Dr Oghenesivbe disclosed that the research findings revealed a prevalent reliance on the Public Information Model, characterized by one-way communication, which limited public engagement and trust-building, adding that while some of the presidential spokespersons demonstrated strong media backgrounds, the majority lacked formal public relations education, experience or certifications before  appointment, raising concerns about their preparedness for dynamic communication demands.

The Communications Bureau Chief who is also the incumbent Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Chapter of NIPR, stated that his study revealed that the effectiveness of spokespersons depends on adopting interactive communication approaches, aligning credentials with professional standards, and clearly defining roles. He emphasized targeted training in public relations, professional certification, credentials acquisition, and the adoption of the two-way symmetrical model to enhance trust and credibility.

Among the assessed presidential spokespersons from 1999 to 2024, late Mrs Oluremi Oyo received the highest mean score of 2.96, which places her performance in the "Fair" category. This suggests that Mrs Oyo is perceived to have done better compared to her peers, with PR practitioners acknowledging her ability to manage the complexities of her role as presidential spokesperson.

According to Dr Oghenesivbe, Dr Reuben Abati received a second place mean score of 2.88, Dr Okupe 2.84, Femi Adesina 2.75, Ima Nibiro 2.64, Segun Adeninyi 2.62, Ajuri Ngilale 2.40 and Uba Sani 2.36. The relatively low mean scores for Uba Sani and Chief Ajuri Ngilale highlight specific cases where PR practitioners believe substantial improvements were needed.

The study revealed that Dr Abati, Mrs Oyo, Dr Okupe, Femi Adesina and Segun Adeninyi mean scores indicate that these individuals were perceived by professional PR practitioners as competent but not outstanding in their roles. Their performance reflects a satisfactory level of public relations practice, where they likely maintained appreciable government's messaging, crisis/image management, good media coverage, and engaged with the media and public to an appreciable and reasonable extend.

Dr Oghenesivbe further stated that Femi Adesina, Dr Reuben Abati, Ima Nibiro and Chief Ajuri Ngilale, frequently increases the volume of positive messaging to overshadow criticism. This suggests that they are particularly proactive in managing negative feedback through an optimistic counter-narrative, saying that a strategic combination of the Public Information Model, and the Press Agentry/Publicity Model cannot be overemphasized.

He stated that most spokespersons lack essential public relations training, which undermines their professional effectiveness, and more specifically they do not possess the specialized qualifications and certifications required by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, which emphasizes formal education and accreditation as necessary for PR practice.

Dr Oghenesivbe's study observes that most spokespersons preferred controlled media interactions over public dialogue, reflecting a broader tendency to prioritize government image management, noting that Femi Adesina and Dr Reuben Abati employed media-centric strategies that align with the Press Agentry/Publicity Model, which focuses on generating favourable media coverage rather than fostering public engagement.

In contrast, spokespersons like Mrs Oluremi Oyo and Ima Nibiro adhered to the Public Information Model, which emphasizes transparency and factual communication without aggressive media manipulation. This divergence communication models illustrates different approaches to managing public perception and the government image.

Dr Oghenesivbe recommended that Spokespersons should obtain formal public relations and communication  training from NIPR to enhance their expertise and meet professional standards, balance traditional and digital media strategies by incorporating real-time social media engagement with controlled messaging through television and newspapers for broader audience reach.

He further recommended that spokespersons should prioritize transparent communication models, such as the Public Information Model to provide factual and open communication with the public rather than focusing on managing government image, while government communication team should engage in more interactive public dialogue, addressing public concerns and government messaging rather than relying exclusively on controlled media interactions, so as  to foster greater public trust and responsiveness.

Dr Oghenesivbe's study made significant contributions to both the practice of PR, particularly on the context of government Communication. It offered practical guidance for PR professionals and government communicators by emphasizing the importance of formal public relations training and certification. It contributes to academic research by providing emperical evidence of the evolving media strategies employed by spokespersons in Nigeria.

He stressed the need for PR practitioners and aspiring members to support NIPR's mission to elevate professional standards in public relations by promoting the importance of ethical practices and formal training to strengthen the credibility of PR practice within Nigerian governance.

Tinubu-Oborevwori political romance: Why Basil Okoh is pained, frustrated

By Jim Derek

I read Basil Okoh's cracked piece, it was indeed a loud cry by a bitter loser bedevilled by the rise and fall of 2014 DITO group, the pains continue to resonate per media propaganda.

DITO is Delta Intelligentsia for Tony Obuh, formed in 2014 to scuttle the governorship ambition of Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa in favour of Mr Tony Obuh, of blessed memory; both men from Ika nation extraction. Bail could not move on after the great fall of DITO, his only hope to become politically relevant and probably become a senior political appointee, if Obuh had emerged in 2015 as governor of Delta State.

Basil Okoh was never alone in DITO, there were both serving and retired senior government officials and other notable technocrats, academicians and consultants assembled to craft policies and programmes for Obuh campaign and incoming government. But at the end, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa emerged as PDP governorship candidate in 2015. Basil Okoh became frustrated and helpless.

Prior to the general elections, some DITO and DUTO members who were in PDP to promote Tony Obuh's governorship election defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC Delta in early 2015, due largely to the crash of DITO and DUTO. DUTO is Delta United for Tony Obuh, with Chief Ayiri Emani as the arrowhead. They fought from the APC end in 2015 but could not defeat Okowa. The "political Ekwueme" survived all odds, and the likes of Basil Okoh swore to fight Okowa and his political family for life.

Basil has been satanically tenacious since 2015 in his evil agenda towards Okowa, as can be seen in his media attacks on the former governor and his political associates, as well as the PDP political family in Delta State. Basil is a man suffering from mental manipulation and/or instability that is grossly unproductive. He's to a large extent depressed and frustrated from all sides, which has rendered him debased and irrelevant. Basil is not a politician, he's a professional blackmailer, deploying evil intelligence.

Other members of DITO moved on, some joined the Okowa administration to contribute their quota towards the development of Delta State, while others defected to opposition parties; but Basil Okoh decided to go the other way, ranting and spreading false allegations against former governor Okowa and incumbent governor, Sheriff Oborevwori as a result of the carryover of heavy dose of bitterness flowing from the rise and fall of DITO spanning over a decade. While in DITO, Basil Okoh was allegedly a recalcitrant, unnecessarily provoked,  arrogant and highly disrespectful. He was very proud and self serving, according to a reliable source who was also a DITO member.

When eventually Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, then Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly indicated interest to run for the office of the Governor of Delta State in 2022/2023; and with the solid  backing of the then incumbent governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, Basil Okoh and his associates went to town with all kinds of allegations against Okowa and Oborevwori. They sang bitter songs, wrote all kinds of distasteful articles that found solace in the trash cans, Deltans spoke loudly in support of Oborevwori.

Governor Oborevwori survived 38 lawsuits, from lower Courts of competent jurisdictions to the apex Court, the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Basil Okoh was said to have wept like a day old baby. He failed woefully to achieve his evil plans against governor Oborevwori and his predecessor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, CON. Basil's tongue is obviously unbridled coupled with unforgiving evil spirit that dwells in his stone-heart.

Basil can be safely referred to as a "professional serial blackmailer" who will stop at nothing to fabricate all sorts of lies peddled via crude media propaganda against perceived enemies or political figures. That's Basil Okoh for you. Check his background and his evil track records, he's indeed a super blackmailer of the highest order.

Basil Okoh's recent article targeted at President Bola Tinubu and the governor of Delta State, Dr (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori is one of such deliberate blackmail, and it's laughable, not different from his previous empty rantings that goes to no issue. His recent article like the previous titles is devoid of emperical facts and figures. Basil shall continue to wallow in pains and agony occasioned by his failure to become a senior government official due to the political development of 2015, which in his view, prevented his benefactor from becoming governor of Delta State.

To set the records straight, governor Oborevwori is not a desperate individual, his emergence as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was through a transparent and open process, televised via national television stations, from voting by delegates to counting of votes and declaration of results. The process was without blemish.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other governorship aspirants in Delta Central Senatorial District went through the entire process openly, peacefully and transparently. All the aspirants were given equal opportunity and time frame to exhibit their individual capacity and popularity. None of the other aspirants faulted the emergence of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, either as governorship candidate of PDP or as governor-elect in 2023, except Olorogun David Edevbie and some people who fronted for the major opposition political party. Their conspiracy theory collapsed, crashed like a pack of cards.

The entire allegations brought against governor Oborevwori were tried in Courts of competent jurisdictions, from the Courts below to the Court above, the Supreme Court. Mr Basil Okoh witnessed the outcome of the entire 38 lawsuits which ended in favour of PDP and governor Sheriff Oborevwori. To God be the Glory!

From the issue of alleged certificates forgery to whether or not Oborevwori genuinely graduated from Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma and Delta State University Abraka to the issue of his School Certificate. All of these were tested, witnesses were called and at the end governor Oborevwori was cleared by the Courts in all 38 lawsuits. His classmates and Course mates at various levels and institutions of learning  testified, and they rallied behind their Alma mater.

Governor Oborevwori won the  governorship election in 21 local government areas in 2023, while the then Senate Deputy President and the All Progressives Congress, APC Delta won in 4 local government areas as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The results declared by INEC were also tested and scrutinized at the Tribunal and in the Courts below, and finally at the Supreme Court. Governor Oborevwori was affirmed the validly elected governor of Delta State, case closed. Mr Basil Okoh cannot now say that governor Oborevwori was imposed on Deltans. The rise and fall of DITO in 2014/2015 has been the bitter pill hanging on the throat of Mr Okoh till date.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is a political bridge builder, a visionary leader, accomplished political leader, and had since aligned with President Tinubu's visionary leadership devoid of political affiliation and all kinds of sentiments. Mr Basil Okoh cannot do anything about it. And it is foreseeable that APC Delta will at the appropriate time effortlessly adopt Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as sole governorship candidate in 2027 based on his monumental achievements as a pan Deltan, and performing governor of inestimable value.

Mr Basil Okoh is also aware that governor Oborevwori has been governing the state without borrowing a penny from anywhere in the world, not from banks or financial institutions. Recently, he got the "Best Governor of the Year Award" from ThisDay Arise Media Group, and "Best Governor in Infrastructure Development Award " from The New Telegraph Newspapers. These Awards were never challenged by any governor or group in Nigeria, meaning that governor Oborevwori worked very hard to earn them. At what point did Mr Bail Okoh lost it? It's time for him to recover from his DITO nightmares.

In fact, here is nothing Mr Okoh can do about the rising political and leadership profile of governor Oborevwori. It is a well known fact that the People's governor with street credibility is not going to defect to APC Delta; he's going to win the 2027 governorship election as PDP gubernatorial candidate judging from his hard work and body language.

The performing governor of Delta State, Dr (Elder) Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori has no rival in 2027. Mr Basil Okoh is aware that Delta State is PDP, and PDP is Delta State since 1999 till date. The cordial relationship between President Bola Tinubu and governor Oborevwori will continue to thrive beyond 2031, and it shall consistently attract additional dividends of democracy to all Deltans and the state, so as to complement the huge socioeconomic and infrastructural development achievements of the governo. The flawless implementation of the MORE Agenda is commendable. As Deltans, we are proud of the remarkable achievements of governor Oborevwori.

The immediate past governor of Delta State, and a frontline national leader of PDP, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, CON, is a great leader to the best of our knowledge as Deltans. He's a clean man who fears God; and Mr Okoh is aware that the frivolous allegations against him lack substance, and therefore dead on arrival.

Senator Okowa recently received a large number of APC Delta defectors to PDP in Ika nation and in Delta North Senatorial District. This development directly faults Basil Okoh's claim that Senator Okowa is forcing governor Oborevwori to join APC Delta. I think Basil is now bereft of ideas. He should comfort himself and come to terms with the present political and leadership realty in the State.

Finally, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will continue to be Mr Basil Okoh's governor till May 29, 2031 under the ruling party in the state since 1999, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Basil's crude media propaganda goes to no issue.

2027: APC extinction visible in Delta ~ Oghenesivbe

...As Ughelli, Udu and Omo-Agege's Orogun town embraced PDP

Director General, Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe Esq, has said that the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State, is collapsing instalmentally as a result of massive defections rocking the party in recent times, coupled with internal petty squabbles.

Dr Oghenesivbe made the assertion on Saturday while speaking to newsmen at the Inauguration of the executive members of Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency PDP Forum, which took place at Oharisi Primary school in Ughelli North Local Government Area, the political base of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

He said Delta is now the 4th largest economy in Nigeria, as a result of governor Oborevwori's hard work, prudent management of resources, transparency, accountability and visionary leadership, pointing out that the governor is daily fulfilling his electioneering campaign promises which is why the people love and trust him, they want him to continue till May 29, 2031.

The Bureau Chief noted that with the defection of over 2000 APC members including DPAN members to PDP in Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency, and Orogun town, coupled with thousands of APC members that defected in Delta North, Delta South and other LGAs in Delta Central, the major opposition party is now in a state of comatose across the state.

He noted forthat the overpriced and the overblown leadership of Senator Omo-Agege in Delta APC has now been laid to rest as we navigate into 2027 general elections.

Dr Fred Oghenesivbe, who is also the Publicity Secretary of Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, assured that governor Oborevwori shall continue to positively impact the state economy, upscale mega infrastructure development, and invest heavily in education, science and technology, agriculture, sports development, youths and women empowerment, as well as create more jobs and wealth for all Deltans through the State Bureau of Job and Wealth Creation, Ministry of Woman Affairs and D-CARES programme, among others.

He posited that those who underrated governor Oborevwori's potentials are now amazed and flabbergasted, surprised at the speed of development and socioeconomic remodelling taking place in Delta State, assuring that the governor's best is yet to come, especially as the state government implements the 2025 budget of transformation and prosperity.

Dr Oghenesivbe also disclosed that the second phase of "Drug Free Delta" will soon commence, adding that he recently had a fruitful discussion with the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Nyerhovwo Tonukari.

He said government is making positive efforts to extend the Drug Free Delta sensitization campaign to Universities, Colleges of Education and Polytechnics, as well as to additional 55 secondary schools across Delta Central, Delta North and Delta South Senatorial Districts,  begining from Mid-April this year.

"APC Delta is already in a state of comatose despite the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko and Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu. The party is gasping for political oxygen to no avail.

"As a matter of fact, the wave of defection rocking Delta APC is unprecedented because of the good governance strides of governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

"Over 2000 APC members came under the protective umbrella of PDP on Saturday at the inauguration of Ughelli-Udu Federal Constituency PDP Forum held at Oharisi Primary school. It was a superlative event that punctured APC Delta politically.

"The defectors described APC Delta as a  confused entity with no visionary leadership. The party has been fragmented and bedevilled by internal squabbles, and the beats goes on.

"APC Delta only exist on social media platforms, not on ground. PDP shall crunch APC Delta far below sea level politically before 2027 general elections.

"On Drug Free Delta, I had a robust discussion with my dear brother and Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Nyerhovwo Tonukari. He assured the State Orientation and Communications Bureau that all Vice Chancellors, Provosts of Colleges of Education and Polytechnics shall be directed to work with the Bureau to mount the campaign in their campuses.

"It's been a super flow of synergy as far as the Drug Free Delta campaign is concerned, and we are determined to ensure that Delta is Free from Hard Drugs and Drug Abuse in collaboration with the State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

"In the same vein, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, had since instructed all Chief Inspectors of Education and Field Officers in the state to work with the Bureau to boost the Drug Free Delta campaign. In all, we are in good standing.

"Delta State Leader of PDP and governor, Dr (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori is doing pretty well, and we are very proud of his giant strides in mega infrastructure and socioeconomic development. He's the TALK-NA-DO governor of inestimable value. A governor with super swag and excessive local content.

"Delta is now the 4th largest economy in Nigeria, as a result of governor Oborevwori's hard work, prudent management of resources, transparency, accountability and visionary leadership.

"Our dear governor is a political strategist, result oriented and a pragmatic leader. We are solidly behind him, he shall continue to govern Delta State till May 29, 2031, by the special grace of God.

"As for what will happen to governor Oborevwori's political detractors and propagandists in 2027, See Isaiah 54:17 KJV for emphasis," Oghenesivbe said.

You Have To Be Grassroot Oriented, Amori Charged Delta SSA Forum

By Joelson Eboh

The Delta State Senior Special Assistants (SSA) Forum, comprising political appointees under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has been charged to be more grassroots oriented for easy mobilization and effective governance.

This charge was made by the Chief Adviser to the Governor, Senator Ighoyota Amori on Tuesday when the forum, led by its Chairman, Hon. Lucky Dikadi, paid him a courtesy visit, at his office in Asaba.

Speaking during the visit, the forum’s Organizing Secretary, Chief Chinedu Enajeko, emphasized the need for Senator Amori’s mentorship, expressing confidence in his leadership. He described the Chief Adviser’s appointment as a significant step toward strengthening Delta State’s political structure.

“We were overjoyed when we heard of your appointment because we believe the political structure of the state will now improve beyond imagination, to the envy of the opposition,” Enajeko said.

Similarly, the Publicity Secretary of the forum, Chief Abraham Ojighoro, likened the SSA Forum to an army in need of a field marshal. He noted that the leadership of Senator Amori would enhance the forum’s effectiveness in grassroots mobilization and governance.

“We don’t want to make mistakes in carrying out our duties,” Ojighoro stated. “We need your guidance, support, and leadership to ensure we maximize our roles in this administration.”

In his response, Senator Amori commended the forum for organizing itself into a formidable body, acknowledging that their desire for active engagement aligns with the administration’s objectives. He reassured them of his support and promised to communicate their concerns to Governor Oborevwori.

“I want to thank you for coming together as a forum. Your zeal to be more effective in your roles is commendable,” Senator Amori said. “No one wants a title without justification. Your duty is to spread the message of the government’s achievements across the 25 local government areas. There are numerous ongoing projects, and it is your responsibility to showcase them to the public.

Emphasizing the importance of effective communication, the Chief Adviser urged the SSA Forum to leverage technology in promoting government activities.

“Politics is about engagement and visibility. People need to know what Governor Oborevwori is doing. Take pictures, record videos, and share updates about government projects in your areas. For those without internet access, engage them directly and channel their feedback up to us,” he advised.

Senator Amori also highlighted the importance of morale-boosting interactions between the governor and his appointees, stating that he would present the forum’s request for a direct engagement session with Governor Oborevwori.

“The governor has appointed you because he recognizes your value. Now, it is up to you to reciprocate by actively participating in governance and promoting government activities. Lack of engagement is not attractive. If we project our achievements, more people will be willing to support and join us,” he concluded.

The Delta SSA Forum’s visit underscores the commitment of political appointees to ensuring effective governance and grassroots participation in the state’s development efforts.

Christian Leaders Must Engage in Politics for Better Governance ~ Amori

By Joelson Eboh

The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ighoyota Amori, has called on Christian leaders to actively participate in politics, emphasizing that governance should not be left solely in the hands of those who do not share the values of righteousness and accountability.

He made this remark while receiving a delegation from the Christian Political Leaders Forum (CPLF), led by its national coordinator, Evang. Emeke Egwuanimkwe; who paid him a courtesy visit today at his office.

Amori commended the CPLF for their efforts in mobilizing Christians for political engagement, noting that the misconception that politics is a “dirty game” has long discouraged many from participating. He stressed that just as politics is taken seriously in other regions, Christians in the South must also rise to the occasion.

“Politics is not inherently dirty; it is the people involved that determine its nature. If the righteous refuse to participate, then we leave the space open for undesirable elements. Instead of avoiding politics, Christians must go in and make a difference, bring integrity, and clean up the system,” he stated.

Speaking on the political evolution of Delta State, Amori reflected on his contributions to the state’s governance, tracing his journey from the early days of grassroots mobilization to the formation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. He described the transition of governance as a product of strategic political decisions and the dedication of experienced leaders.

“Whatever you see in Delta today is a product of our collective effort over the years. We built the PDP from the ground up and maintained it through strategic leadership and dedication. Politics, at its core, should be about service and not personal ambition,” he said.

He further acknowledged the role of the Christian community in political appointments, citing the emergence of faith-driven leaders in government positions. He referenced the involvement of Catholic clergy in political advisory roles, stating that the church’s political consciousness is growing.

“Today we have a Catholic priest as the governor of Benue state.

We also have a Catholic priest as the Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) actively engaging in politics. It is a sign that the church is beginning to understand that political participation is necessary for societal progress,” Amori added.

He also emphasized the importance of support groups in governance, describing them as a vital link between the government and the people.

“Support groups are not pressure groups; they work hand-in-hand with the government, providing valuable feedback from the grassroots. The governor cannot be everywhere, so he relies on authentic information from groups like yours. Your work is important, and I assure you that this office is open to your contributions,” he assured the CPLF delegation.

Amori concluded by reaffirming his commitment to supporting Christian political engagement, pledging to take their concerns to the governor.

“This office is not just a ceremonial one; it is a political office with real influence. I will take your message beyond this meeting and ensure that more support is given to groups like yours,” he declared.

The meeting ended with prayers for the state and its leadership, as the CPLF reaffirmed their commitment to promoting political awareness among Christians.

The exaltations and prayers conducted by the Chairman of Delta State Christian pilgrims Welfare Board, Apostle Sylvanus Okorete, Board Executive Secretary, Rev Fr Christopher Ekabo,  Rev Fr Obadjere and several other ministers of God, were held at the Wailing Wall also known as the Western Wall, which is one of the most significant spiritual temple in the Holy Land, and at the Tomb of Jesus, as well as the Good Shepherd Church in Bethlehem. The Good Shepherd were the first to know about the birth of Jesus Christ through an Angel.

The pilgrims prayed favently for peace in Nigeria, economic prosperity and good governance, and also prayed for consistent economic prosperity of Delta State, peaceful coexistence and sustainable development under the purposeful leadership of the state governor, Dr (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori.

Delta Pilgrims also prayed for political stability, good governance and sustainable democracy in Nigeria, and  more particularly for economic growth, stronger national currency, and for genuine spirit of patriotism to overshadow those in authority in public and private sectors,.to fast track national development.

Prayers were also focused on the need for Nigeria to be first in all that we do and say; for the attainment of a new national rebirth where ethnicity, religion and tribal bigotry would no longer have a place in our national life, where we are truly united in diversity.

Speaking at site where Jesus was imprisoned before His crucification, leader of Delta State Pilgrims to the Holy Land of Israel and Jordan, Hon Ejiro Terry Etagherure, emphasized the need for Christians to always remember the sufferings of Jesus, before and during his imprisonment, crucification and death.

The Honourable Commissioner urged the state Pilgrims to see the visit as a rare privilege that enabled individual to reflect on his or her personal spiritual relationship with God, and the choice of where to be after death, Heaven or hell.

He thanked governor Sheriff Oborevwori for doing the needful to ensure the pilgrims visit to the Holy Land of Israel and Jordan, at a time he's executing gigantic roads and other socioeconomic projects across the three senatorial districts, noting that Delta Pilgrims have continue to conduct themselves peacefully in the Holy Land.

In the same vein, Executive Secretary of Delta State Christian pilgrims Welfare Board, Very Rev Fr Christopher Ekabo, said Delta State is among few states with the highest number of pilgrims in the Holy Land of Israel and Jordan, pointing to show the high premium governor Oborevwori and the state government places on the spiritual well-being of Deltans, and absolute recognition of God Almighty as the Alpha and Omega of Nigeria, Delta State and the entire universe.

Rev Fr Ekabo and Rev Fr Obadjere led Pilgrims in prayers at diverse times and places in the Holy Land for peace, prosperity and good governance in Nigeria and Delta State.

Delta Pilgrims were taken through "The Way of the Cross" comprising 14 stations before Jesus got to the place of crucification, death and burial, and on the third day he rose from the dead. The crucifixion point is know as the Golgotha Hill. Delta Pilgrims prayed favently at this historical biblical site. It was indeed a rare privilege.

Prayer points were submitted to the Temple Priest at the Church of Nativity, where Jesus was born in Bethlehem. We saw the Manger and the very spot He was believed to be born and several other places mentioned in the Holy Bible.

More reports as well make steady progress here in the Holy Land of Israel and Jordan. Shalom!
